Delaware Town Refunds $800,000 In Red-Light Camera Tickets
Wilmington, Delaware ignored a state law restricting the use of red-light cameras against motorists turning right on a red light. In a statement Tuesday, Mayor Mike Purzycki said the town would issue refunds to 6700 vehicle owners ticketed over the six month period from July 2016 to January 2017. He also pulled the plug on all right turn ticketing.

Virginia Scolds Insurance Institute For Illegal Speed Camera Use
The state of Virginia is not happy that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) set up speed cameras on Virginia highways without any authority to do so. State officials sent a warning letter to the industry lobbying group in October. “Through freedom of information act requests, the NMA discovered the apparent unauthorized use of state land by IIHS and Brekford to record vehicle information from thousands of Northern Virginia drivers,” NMA President Gary Biller told TheNewspaper. “That information, under the guise of research, helped IIHS gain access to the DMV records of those drivers.”

Study Touts Red-Light Camera Benefits In Chicago, Illinois
Chicago, Illinois has the nation’s single-most lucrative red-light camera program. To defend it in the wake of a criminal fraud scandal involving the number two man at the city’s transportation department, the Chicago Department of Transportation hired the Northwestern University Transportation Center to produce a report that would showcase the benefits of the program that generated $45,462,700 worth of tickets in 2015. The city released the document on Monday.

France, Italy: Speed Cameras No Longer Function
Attacks on speed cameras in San Dona, Italy continued last week Sunday with the camera on the Via Gondulmera being ripped open at the bottom and spraypainted black at the top, La Nuova di Venezia e Mestre reported. La Nuova di Venezia e Mestre also reported that the camera on the Via del Perer was spraypainted on Tuesday. On the previous week, cameras on the Via Calvecchia were spraypainted and knocked over.
