US Supreme Court Allows Gathering Evidence Through Illegal Traffic Stops
A 5 to 3 ruling Tuesday by the US Supreme Court will make it much less likely that evidence will be suppressed if police officers conduct an illegal traffic stop. The case under review did not directly involve a traffic stop. Instead, police were watching a suspected drug house in South Salt Lake City, Utah when Edward Joseph Strieff Jr emerged on December 21, 2006.

Texas Judge Arrested Over Illegal Speed Camera Contract
Smith County, Texas Judge Joel Patrick Baker was arrested Friday for arranging a deal with American Traffic Solutions (ATS) to install speed cameras during a meeting held in violation of the Texas Open Meetings Act. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton secured the indictment on Thursday.

France, Italy, San Marino, UK: Speed Cameras Mocked, Disabled
In Desenzano sul Garda, Italy, vigilantes ripped a bright orange speed camera housing right out of the ground last week. According to Brescia Today, the unknown individuals then took the housing to the Piazza Garibaldi and used it to cover a police officer’s memorial statue.

North Carolina Lawmakers Revolt Against Interstate Tolling
It is now up to the North Carolina state Senate to decide whether tolls will be imposed on the Interstate 77. Earlier this month, the state House of Representatives voted 81 to 27 in favor of a measure canceling the contract that the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) entered with the Spanish firm Cintra to run high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes on the freeway. State Senator David Curtis (R-Gaston) is now trying to round up support among his colleagues to pass the bill and put it on the governor’s desk.
