- IoT Security is a Public Safety Issue That Requires Active Policy was presented on the MeriTalk website which is devoted to improving Outcomes of Government IT.
- The GovTech website featured the city of Miami, FL in an article called Inside One of the most Aggressive Intelligent Transportation IoT Efforts in the U.S.
Connected Cars
- Hackers aren’t trying to wreck your car, they just want your Cash! This according to The Car Connection website.
- The British website Information Age gives an overview on what auto industry experts are doing to counteract current and future cybercriminals. How Cyber Attackers will shift gear once Connected Cars hit the Road.
Carsharing
- Here’s a question that I have concerning carsharing—Would You Rent out Your Car to a Complete Stranger?
- Also, what about the liability?
Driverless or Semi-Autonomous Cars
- The IEEE Spectrum website posted an article entitled Autonomous Vehicles Need In-Car Cameras to Monitor Drivers. Who wants a camera on their face every second they drive? So your car then becomes Big Brother?
- Automotive News’ news editor Dave Guilford asked this question in a recent column: Are Automakers over-hyping autonomous vehicle development? Yep!
- A Car and Driver blog post discusses a fact that has always perplexed me—IF Everyone uses a Driverless Car or Ridesharing Service is there still Room for Passenger Trains?
Electric Cars or EVs
German elected officials apparently have support to ban the sale of combustion-engine cars by 2030. The Germans are also pushing for this ban to go Europe-wide in order to meet emission goals. Will German regulars support this? Germans love their cars and EVs will need to be up to the same power standard as their BMW and Mercedes I suspect or Germans will just keep their old combustion-engine cars until they can be driven no more.
- VW plans to build an electric Beetle. VW will put the engine in the back again but will there be enough room for the battery?
- Range is All the Rage in Paris, as Electric Cars steal the Show!
- The AutoEvolution website posts an article on Six Problems with Electric Cars that Nobody Talks About.
- Yahoo News reports that The Electric Car Revolution is coming, but not until 2025.
Ridesharing
- Big auto companies, now called Mobility companies, have invested heavily or partnered with the bigger ridesharing companies all over the world. Many see ridesharing as a bigger disrupter than driverless cars. GM CEO Mary Barra made this statement recently to the press.
- The Torontoist (Canada) website explains in a post Why Ridesharing isn’t a Substitute for Investing in Transit.
- The Foundation for Economic Education posts a look at Why Ridesharing reduces Racism.
Solar Highways
No flying car stories this week but here are three interesting stories on solar infrastructure. I’m fascinated how highways and even sidewalks could be used to create energy if the savings costs can be proven.
