UPDATE April 1, 2020: Failed to pass pursuant to Senate Joint Resolution 1. That resolution states that the last general-business floorperiod of the 2019-2020 Wisconsin legislative session ended on March 26, 2020. Because no action was taken on AB 365, the bill effectively died.

Assembly Bill 365 was introduced on August 12, 2019 and assigned to the House Committee on Local Government. A public hearing date has not yet been set.

AB365 would allow the City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s largest, to operate speed cameras and red-light cameras. Wisconsin statutes currently prohibit the use of automated enforcement anywhere in the state. The NMA opposes the use of photo enforcement on several grounds, including speed cameras and red-light cameras. Many states prohibit the use of either type of enforcement camera, including Maine, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Texas (in the process of phasing out), and West Virginia. Many others prohibit one of the two types of cameras or have no laws on their books allowing the use of the ticketing devices.
