Speed Limit Designation Amendments

NMA Recommendation:
Oppose

UPDATE March 22, 2022: Bill was signed into law on March 15.

House Bill 235 would allow municipalities throughout the state to lower speed limits under their authority without having to conduct engineering studies.

The NMA opposes this bill since arbitrarily lowering speed limits will lead to more speed traps, especially in small towns that rely on traffic ticket revenue for a substantial portion of their budgets. Learn more about how speed limits should be established here.
