Bill Title:
New York Senate Bill 8328 - Increases the Number of Traffic-Control Signal Photo Violation-Monitoring Devices
Full Bill Text NMA Recommendation:
Oppose
Senate House Bill 8328 would extend the City of New York’s red-light camera program through November 2029. It would also arbitrarily increase the number of cameras deployed by 10 percent for a total of 1,325. It is under review in the Senate Transportation Committee.
The NMA opposes this bill since photo enforcement is more about generating revenue than improving public safety. It also raises serious due process issues for motorists who receive tickets. More on these issues can be found here.
