Bill Location:
New York•Assembly / House
Bill Title:
Relates to Establishing Speed Limits in Cities with Populations in Excess of One Million People
Full Bill Text NMA Recommendation:
Oppose
New York Assembly Bill 4655 would allow cities with populations in excess of one million to lower speed limits from 25 mph to 20 mph. The measure is currently under consideration in the Assembly Transportation Committee.
The NMA opposes this measure since arbitrarily lowering speed limits has little impact on traffic safety and artificially increases violation rates leading to more ticket revenue. Learn more about how speed limits should be set here.
