Legislature Bill 164 would permit local city councils and village boards to lower speed limits on highways under their control without performing proper speed studies. They would only need to determine that “hazardous conditions” exist to make the change.

The NMA is opposed to this bill since arbitrarily lowering speed limits proliferates speed traps and unfairly targets responsible motorists. Learn more about how speed limits should be set here.
