UPDATE 6/30/22: Bill died in committee
UPDATE February 10, 2022: Bill has passed the House Committee on Roads and Transportation and is now in the House Ways and Means Committee.
House Bill 1035 would authorize the creation of a speed camera “pilot program” within highway work zones. If passed it would inevitably lead to the spread of speed cameras to roadways throughout the state.
The NMA is opposed to this bill since speed cameras are about revenue generation, not improving highway safety. They penalize responsible drivers with unnecessary fines and raise many dues process concerns. Learn more about speed cameras here.
