Full Bill Text NMA Recommendation:
Support
Senate Bill 3423 has been proposed to repeal the use of red-light cameras throughout the state. It would also impose limits on the power of local governments to use speed cameras. It is pending in the Senate Assignments Committee.
The NMA supports this bill since photo enforcement is more about generating revenue than improving public safety. It also raises serious due process issues for motorists who receive tickets. More on these issues can be found here and here.
