UPDATE 6/30/22: Bill died in committee
Senate Bill 2319 is under consideration in the Senate. If passed the bill would ban the use of all photo enforcement (both red-light cameras and speed cameras) throughout the state. It has already passed the Senate Ways and Means Committee.
The NMA supports this bill since photo enforcement penalizes safe drivers with unwarranted citations, doesn’t increase road safety and poses many due process concerns. Learn more about issues related to red-light cameras and speed cameras here and here.
