California Assembly Bill 1826 would prohibit issuing red-light camera citations for right turns on red (RTOR) violations. It is pending in the Assembly Transportation Committee.
The NMA supports this legislation. Many municipalities make the bulk of the red-light camera revenue from RTOR citations, and prohibiting them would remove some of the revenue motivation from camera ticketing schemes. In addition, RTOR maneuvers are remarkably safe and promote efficient traffic flow (saving fuel and lowering emissions).
