UPDATE April 28, 2022: Bill was signed into law on April 5, 2022.
Senate Bill 282 would prohibit municipalities from generating more than 10 percent of their operating budget from traffic citations. The bill would require excess funds to be transferred to the Alabama Crime Victims’ Compensation Fund and the Fair Trial Tax Fund. The measure has already passed the Senate and the House and has been forwarded to the Executive Department. Learn more here.
