UPDATE January 4, 2021: Bill died in committee

Bill A 2742 was introduced on January 25, 2019 and referred to the Assembly Transportation Committee. It is not currently scheduled for a public hearing.

The bill would add a section to NY vehicle and traffic law that states that drivers shall drive in the lane nearest the right-hand edge or curb of the roadway when that lane is available for travel unless overtaking another vehicle or in preparation of a left turn. It also includes restrictions for use of the center lane of a three-lane (in one direction) highway. This is a “keep right” or lane courtesy clause, a driving principle that the NMA supports because it promotes free-flowing and safer traffic patterns.
