Conservative Groups Hit Texas Governor Over Cameras, Tolls
Influential political groups are making their way to the Texas state capitol to urge Governor Greg Abbott (R) to take action against red-light cameras and toll roads. The state legislature, which meets once every two years, adjourned on May 29 without taking decisive action on motorist issues that were part of Abbott’s campaign platform. The groups are urging the governor to place pro-motorist bills on the agenda when he calls lawmakers back into special session.

Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Shows Its Love For Tolling
The Fifth Circuit US Court of Appeals could not hold back from sharing its love for toll roads. In a decision Tuesday, the three-judge panel gushed over the advantages of automated tolling systems as it upheld the legitimacy of slapping thousands of dollars in administrative fees against people who, for whatever reason, did not receive or pay an invoice for their tolls.

California Chief Justice To Strip Rights From Motorists
California motorists would have fewer legal rights when contesting traffic tickets under a proposal from state Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye. California’s top judge last month ordered the Judicial Council to act on a recommendation calling for “civil adjudication” of all traffic tickets.

France, Russia: Speed Cameras Poked, Burned
A motorist tipped a mobile speed camera in Yekaterinburg, Russia on June 8, Newday News reported. The young man pulled over on the side of the road, grabbed a baseball bat out of his trunk, and gently nudged the tripod-mounted automated ticketing machine until the camera pointed skyward. An older, much larger man who worked for the speed camera company confronted the motorist and forced him to leave. The photo radar operator repositioned the camera to resume ticketing.

Ransomware Virus Compromises More Redflex Cameras In Australia
Confusion reigns in down under as the WannaCry ransomware virus has paralyzed the speed camera and red-light camera program in Victoria, Australia. Redflex Traffic Systems, the number two operator of red-light cameras and speed cameras in the United States, found itself on the hot seat as state government officials were visibly furious that the Melbourne-based company attempted to conceal the full extent of the problem.
