Driving for Opportunity Act
U.S. Senate Bill 4186
Waunakee, WI: The National Motorists Association supports the Driving for Opportunity Act, a bipartisan bill introduced in Congress earlier this month by Senators Christopher Coons (D-DE) and Roger Wicker (R-MS). The Act rightly provides positive incentives in the way of grants “to States that do not suspend, revoke, or refuse to renew a driver’s license of a person or refuse to renew a registration of a motor vehicle for failure to pay a civil or criminal fine or fee. . .”
“Families, and society in general, are burdened not benefitted when a person’s livelihood in support of his or her family is threatened by a driver’s license suspension. The financial hole to dig out of becomes that much deeper, particularly for lower-income individuals,” said NMA President Gary Biller. He added, “It is telling that supporters of the Driving for Opportunity Act include prominent civil liberties organizations, groups that span the political spectrum, and law enforcement advocates.”
The National Motorists Association is dedicated to the protection of motorists’ rights and freedoms. The North American membership-based organization advocates for traffic laws fairly written and reasonably enforced based on safety standards rather than revenue motives.
