Biden-Harris Administration Announces More than $96 Million in Advanced Technology Grants to Improve Safety and Reduce Travel Times

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced more than $96.5 million in grants to 16 states for 20 projects under the Advanced Transportation Technology and Innovation (ATTAIN) program. Overall, the 20 selected projects will help advance Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies that improve mobility and safety.

New York seeks to ban drivers from thruway for non-payment of tolls

A proposed rule change by the New York State Thruway Authority would see vehicles banned from the thruway for failure to pay tolls. The proposed rulemaking seeks to amend a section of the state’s statutes to “provide patrons with a clear description of the tolling process.”

AEB Technology Shows Improved Collision Prevention

NHTSA mandates Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) in all vehicles by 2029, pushing for safer automotive standards. Research, comparing older (2017-2018) and newer models, found that newer vehicles achieved 100% collision avoidance at lower speeds, while older models only succeeded 51% of the time.
