Dear NMA Members,
I am deeply humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve as the Executive Director of Operations for the National Motorists Association. It is a role that I take on with great enthusiasm and dedication. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Board of Directors for placing their trust in me and granting me this incredible opportunity. I’m also looking forward to working with my esteemed co-leader, Jay Beeber.
Jay and I recognize the tremendous responsibility and honor that comes with carrying on the exceptional legacy built by Jim Baxter and Gary Biller for the past four decades. Their tireless dedication and steadfast commitment to our mission have laid the groundwork for the National Motorists Association’s success. We are committed to upholding the values and principles that Jim and Gary have instilled in us, while also forging new paths and adapting to the changing landscape of driving advocacy.
At this point, you may be thinking the same thing I did when I first agreed to take on this new role.
How many more times this year will the NMA promise exciting changes, only to deliver more of the same? Lots of change and promises of improvement can be exhausting, especially when there’s no tangible impact or progress to show for it. As fellow enthusiasts, it’s natural to question whether our enthusiasm is misplaced or if genuine transformation will ever be achieved.
I am determined that our commitment to revitalizing the organization’s operations and communications will break this cycle, ensuring that each promise is met with meaningful action and evident results. We are striving to inject true innovation and positive change into the NMA, embracing accountability and transparency to restore your faith and deliver the transformative experience you deserve.
My priorities are clear. I will remain focused on reducing operational inefficiencies, revitalizing communication channels, building an engaged member base, supporting national advocacy efforts, and increasing revenue for the National Motorists Association.
I have already made significant progress. By implementing strategic cost-cutting measures, we have successfully reduced monthly expenses by several thousand dollars, allowing us to allocate resources towards essential initiatives. Furthermore, we are eagerly anticipating the launch of our new website, which will serve as a powerful tool for engaging with our audience and conveying our mission. Our communication tactics have also been realigned to our long-term growth objectives, ensuring that our messages resonate effectively.
Maintaining a legacy while building a new story for the National Motorists Association is both a challenge and a tremendous opportunity. As we strive to preserve the core values that have made the NMA a respected voice for driving advocacy for more than four decades, we must also remain adaptive and forward-thinking. Our goal is not to disregard or discard the valued legacies of our predecessors, but to leverage them as a foundation for growth and innovation. At the same time, we are committed to creating a new story that engages today’s drivers, offers fresh perspectives, and empowers positive change for the future. By embracing our past, present, and future, we can build on our history while also pursuing new horizons that will drive the NMA to even greater success in the years to come.
I am excited about the road ahead and the opportunity to contribute to the growth and advancement of the NMA. Together, with the support of our dedicated members, Jay and I will make a lasting impact and shape a future where the rights of drivers are protected, and their voices are heard. Through our unwavering dedication, we will continue to honor the trailblazing work of Jim and Gary, and ensure that the NMA remains at the forefront of driving advocacy for the next 40 years and beyond.
Thank you for granting the privilege to serve and protect American freedoms.
Sincerely,
Lauren Matthews
