In another example of an old ticket coming back to haunt a driver (even though it was paid years ago), an Oklahoma City driver is dealing with a cracked windshield ticket from 29 years ago that has generated an arrest warrant.
Here’s the story from News Channel 4 in Oklahoma City:
A traffic ticket nearly three decades old could land a metro man behind bars. Mark Piatt says he paid the ticket, but court officials tell us that isn’t the case.
“They want me to go to jail for a non-criminal act, a cracked windshield back in 1982 because I cannot prove I paid that little cheap ticket back in 1982,” Piatt said. Piatt says he was pulled over earlier this year and an officer notified him that there was a warrant out for his arrest.
Piatt says he was given a warning and told to take care of the matter. He claims he paid the ticket, but says he has no record of it since it was nearly 30 years ago.
The moral of the story is this: cities with budget shortfalls get greedy so you should keep records of any ticket payments just in case.
