New Mexico: Another Settlement Costs Redflex $3 Million
The legal bills for Redflex Traffic Systems continue to mount. Last week, the Australian firm asked a federal judge to approve a $3.5 million settlement over strongarm tactics used to collect on ignored red-light camera citations in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Government To Seize Red-Light Camera Bribery Cash
The US Department of Justice wants to make sure that red-light camera bribery does not pay. A federal judge will decide next week whether former Chicago, Illinois deputy transportation chief John Bills should be fined $680,107 for taking bribes from Redflex Traffic Systems. The Australian firm supplied the cash return for the official’s assistance in expanding the Windy City’s red-light camera program into the largest of its kind in the world. Bills, for his part, is asking Judge Virginia M. Kendall to set him free.

France, Sweden: Speed Camera Bashed, Burned
A speed camera was burned beyond recognition in Saint-Gervais, France on Sunday. According to La Gazette Val d’Oise, flames from the camera were spotted on the RD14 at around 1:25am. Police have no idea who might be responsible.

Arizona AG Halts All Photo Radar Use
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich sent shockwaves through the photo enforcement industry on Wednesday in finding that red-light camera and speed camera companies have been violating the state’s private investigator statute. Under the law, anyone other than a police officer who gathers evidence for use in a court trial must be a licensed investigator. Failure to obtain a license is a class one misdemeanor.
