Pennsylvania Court Upholds Seatbelt Roadblocks
Motorists traveling along a highway in Pennsylvania can be stopped at roadblocks specifically set up just to issue seatbelt citations. A three-judge panel of the superior court on Friday endorsed the practice of using federal grants to set up seatbelt checkpoints statewide on high-volume roadways.

New York: Fraud Lawsuit Proceeds Against Toll Road Firm
A New York state court decided last Wednesday that a financial guaranty insurance company could sue a toll road company for fraud over a scheme to buy public infrastructure assets at hefty premiums. Syncora Guarantee Inc accused Macquarie, an Australian tolling giant, of misrepresenting a $500 million bond deal to refinance five US toll roads and bridges organized as American Roads LLC.

Nevada Supreme Court Overturns Traffic Stop From Questionable Cop
The Nevada Supreme Court on Wednesday threw out a traffic stop performed by a state trooper caught lying in a job application in a way that “would have been enough to result in his termination.” The justices unanimously ruled that Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Richard Pickers was in the wrong on November 1, 2009 when he searched Kent J. Beckman’s car without a warrant.

Ohio, Italy: Traffic Cameras Unplugged, Knocked Over
Another speed camera in Lucas, Ohio had its power cord cut on Friday. According to the Mansfield News Journal, vigilantes also attempted to pull the device down with ropes. Officials have no idea who might be responsible and note that many houses on Main Street have anti-camera signs in their yards.

UK Government Admits Scotland Speed Camera Stats Were Faulty
Critics who have been saying the government of Scotland inflated its claims of speed camera effectiveness were vindicated Tuesday. The UK Statistics Authority, an independent watchdog agency, issued a report confirming that the country’s national statistics failed to adhere to commonly accepted standards. The authority tested the statistical methods used by the Scottish speed camera partnerships in compiling a document known as the Key Scottish Speed Camera Programme Statistics report.

Redflex Encourages Whistleblowers To Come Forward
As a way to improve its image in the wake of a massive bribery scandal, Redflex Traffic Systems has added a “compliance center” to its website that encourages employees to come forward and report wrongdoing at the second-largest provider of red-light cameras and speed cameras.
