The NMA supports passage of HB 1614, which requires the curriculum of driver education programs to include training on the principle of zipper merging where drivers use both lanes of merging traffic until the merge point of the lanes at which time vehicles alternate merging in “zipper” fashion into the single remaining traffic lane. The bill would also information about zipper merging to the written examination portion of the driver’s license application process.
